WHY USE THATCH TILES?
INSTALLATION OF THATCH TILES
Thatch tiles are easy to install. They are installed using regular, everyday 38mm x 38mm SA Pine. These tiles measure 1.34m x 0.42m so you only require 2.1 tiles per m² and the installed weight is approximately 6kg per m².
The tiles come with a standard 50 year warranty when installed by an accredited installer.
These tiles are not flammable. This greatly reduces the fire risk associated with thatched roofs and the insurance cost involved.
AESTHETICS OF THATCH TILES
Thatch tiles are stone coated, oven baked with high quality sintered sand that ensures you get the quality and long lasting look you pay for. Instead of using dyed / painted sand, they make use of a ceramic coated, sintered sand. An acrylic overglaze is applied as a final coating to give the granules a semi-gloss appearance and to ensure that your colour does not fade.
Most clients prefer thatch tiles over your conventional thatch roof simply because these tiles have virtually zero maintenance. The tiles are manufactured using structural grade steel covered with an aluminium zinc alloy coating that has a proven corrosion protection for the underlying steel exceeding 50 years in most environments. The tiles can also be installed over an existing thatch roof.
ROOF ANGLE REQUIRED
This alternative to thatched roofs can be installed at a starting angle of 15 degrees. This makes them perfect for those low hanging verandas or roofs where the required incline is limited.
The tiles only weigh approximately 6kg per square meter in comparison to the enormous weight of 50kg per square meter of conventional concrete tiles. This is an 88% reduction of weight on loadbearing walls and roof trusses.
